Support Our Library!

August 16 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

We Need to Support our Library and ALL of our Kids.

Where: Jamestown Philomenian Library

When: Saturday, August 16th from Noon – 2 p.m.

August 16 is not only the Jamestown Philomenian Library’s book fair, but it will be an occasion to show up in support for our library, all of our children and our right to read what we choose.

Why all the hoopla? Because an organization called Moms for Liberty has chosen this day to put on an event in one of the library’s meeting rooms. We know these folks have every right to utilize our library just as we all do. But this is part of a national campaign by an organization and a book publisher, whose values and methods are less than friendly. Learn more.

They are the folks behind book bans in an effort to eliminate books that reference race and LGBTQ identity in libraries and schools across the country. They have harassed librarians, teachers and other folks involved in educating kids. And their founders have a pretty tawdry personal history. Florida school board recommends ouster of Moms for Liberty co-founder over Republican sex scandal | PBS News

Join us in forming a circle around our library as a show of support for our library, our librarians, our teachers and our kids, all of them. We are hoping to gather in a quiet and clear protest, (It’s a library after all!) not a loud protest.  And, you also can buy a book at the book fair, which will be held in the Library’s big meeting room.

Kind Reminders:

  • Please do not block doorways or access to the library.  *Remember our children are in the library and on the playground so we encourage supportive signs and respect for those using the library or visiting the playground.
  • Please do not park in the library spaces blocking our neighbors who are going to the book sale.
