Richard Smith
Candidate for Town Council

As a resident of Jamestown for more than 60 years, I can’t escape the charm of the island. While studying Meteorology in college, I worked summers at Conanicut Marine Services. After graduating, my love of the water, weather and the outdoors kept me at CMS for the next 45 years. I retired a couple of years ago.

My wife, known to preschoolers as Ms. Michelle, worked for many years in, and retired from the Jamestown school. Our kids, Rip and Stef, are also fortunate to live and work on the island. We have 4 grandchildren who attend the Jamestown Schools and participate in the many wonderful programs Jamestown has to offer. We all feel very lucky to be a part of this unique and caring community. These are a few of the reasons why I am running for Town Council.

We all know that there are issues in Jamestown that have been discussed for years: water resources, Fort Getty, non home owner occupied short term rentals, to name a few. I plan to address these and future issues with an open mind and a common sense approach that will benefit ALL of Jamestown. It is now time to make decisions.

To quote my niece…I am “Anchored in Jamestown.” With your support, I would love to have the opportunity to help Jamestown move forward while remaining mindful of its wonderful past.
