Joshua Furtado has called Jamestown home for the past 30 years, where he lives with his wife, an English teacher at North Kingstown High School, and their two children who attend Jamestown schools. He is deeply passionate about innovation, learning, and leadership, and is dedicated to ensuring that Jamestown schools are at the forefront of educational excellence.

Joshua is the Founder and Managing Partner of Illuma Ventures, specializing in talent acquisition and venture facilitation. With nearly two decades of experience, he has built successful teams in the blockchain, software/hardware, AI, biotech, and cleantech industries. Prior to Illuma Ventures, he co-founded Towerhill Associates, working with a range of clients from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. He holds a BS degree in International Business from the University of Rhode Island (URI). He is also a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and a certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, having completed the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.

Joshua’s commitment to personal and professional growth is reflected in his approach to both his career and community involvement. As a member of the Jamestown School Committee, he aims to foster an environment of innovation, creativity, and experiential education. Joshua believes that teachers and children should have access to the educational resources to become the best versions of themselves. He is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the community and support the continuous improvement of Jamestown schools.
