Agnes Filkins
School Committee

I graduated with a BA from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA and a MEd from Salem State College, now Salem University, Salem, MA. In 1999, I retired from a 36 year career teaching elementary, junior high, and high school. The last 26 years of my career I taught reading and English at Algonquin Regional High School, Northboro, MA.

My tenure there included being Department Chair of the Reading Department and designing and teaching English to at risk students. I was also involved in curriculum development in language arts, grades 1-12, chairing several committees. Because I love teaching, I continued in education by substitute teaching in Jamestown and North Kingstown. I “retired” again in 2015.

I firmly believe in contributing to the community I live in. During my years in Jamestown, I have been involved in the former Jamestown EMS and was a docent at Beavertail Museum. I am currently a member of the Juvenile Hearing Board and of the board of the Jamestown Community Chorus. I have served on the School Committee since 2016.
